  1. Look at the text’s features (title, picture, source, and highlighted difficult words).
  2. Read the questions (A–F) that appear after the text — do not answer them.
  3. Answer questions 1–6.

  1. התבוננות במאפיינים הצורניים של הטקסט (כותרת, תמונה, מקור, מילים קשות)
  2. קריאת השאלות – לפני קריאת הטקסט.
כיוון שאלה השלבים שמבצעים לפני שקוראים את הטקסט – אל תקראו את הטקסט שלפניכם, ועקבו אחר ההוראות:
  1. הסתכלו על המאפיינים הצורניים של הטקסט (כותרת, תמונה, מקור, מילים קשות מודגשות)
  2. קראו את השאלות (A-F) המצורפות לטקסט – אל תענו עליהן!
  3. ענו על השאלות 1-6.

Growing Watermelons in the Arava

  I The Arava Desert is one of the hottest and driest areas in Israel. Even though the weather conditions are extreme, many farmers in the region grow watermelons successfully. Over the years, farmers have learned how to work with the desert climate instead of fighting against it. II One of the biggest difficulties in growing crops (1)  in the Arava is the lack of water. To solve this problem, farmers use advanced irrigation (2) systems that send water directly to the roots (3) of the plants. These systems help reduce water waste and allow the watermelons to grow properly. III Farmers in the Arava also pay close attention to timing. Watermelons are usually planted in late winter so that they can grow before the strongest summer heat arrives. Thanks to careful planning and modern farming methods, watermelons grown in the Arava are known for their quality and sweet taste. Adapted from: Desert Farming Today
